A Greeting For Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month
Dear Gannon Family,
We are in the third week of Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October
15), signed into law in 1988 to honor the presence and contributions of
Spanish-speaking Americans who have ancestral roots in Spain, Mexico, as well
as certain countries in Central America, South America, the Caribbean, and
Africa. We honor and celebrate all Hispanic Americans, especially in our
Gannon family. We also, however, honor the citizens from these countries
who work and study in the US and in our University. The Gannon community
is blessed with the presence of students from Spain, Colombia, Ecuador, El
Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and from the US territory of
Puerto Rico.
We are grateful for the presence of our Hispanic sisters and brothers,
especially in the Gannon family, who bring the presence of peace and joy to
enrich our community and promote a true dialogue of friendship.
May this month inspire us to commit more intently to the work of solidarity
in appreciating each culture's unique contribution to the unity of our human
family.
In Peace and Friendship,
Dr. Keith Taylor
