A record year, more than 1,400 Gannon University volunteers are registered to serve their communities through Gannon’s Invitation to Volunteer Everywhere (GIVE) Day this Saturday, Sept. 16.

Gannon students, employees, alumni and families will report to more than 45 service sites in Erie, Pa. and Ruskin, Fla., including locations such as the Regional Science Consortium, Our West Bayfront neighborhoods, Presque Isle and Sisters of St. Joseph Neighborhood Network.

GIVE Day is also scheduled to coincide with International Coastal Clean-Up, a worldwide effort to clean coastal shores and waterways of debris. Gannon and Erie volunteers will gather at Presque Isle State Park, the Erie Bluffs State Park, and at multiple other ICC sites across Erie County to participate in this global initiative.

“Gannon is proudly celebrating our 26th year of GIVE Day with our largest turnout of volunteers to date,” said Rebecca Indorf, director of the Center for Social Concerns at Gannon. “We are excited to welcome new and returning community partners in both the Erie area and in Ruskin, Florida. I’m continually impressed at the Gannon community’s capacity to give more each year with over a quarter of our campus community participating.”

At Gannon’s Erie Campus, the day begins at 8 a.m. with a rally in the Highmark Events Center before volunteers head out to their service sites across the city from 9 a.m. to noon.
