West Bayfront Community Bonds to be Strengthened by National Night Out

National Night Out

National Night Out

Dozens of organizations are coming together to host Gridley Park National Night Out (NNO) on Tuesday, August 7 from 6-8 p.m. in Erie's West Bayfront. This free, community event is intended to strengthen community relationships, build neighborhood capacity and promote civic engagement.

"This is our community's signature event where the spirit of the West Bayfront shines," said Anna Frantz, Executive Director of Our West Bayfront, one of the organizations that partners to host the event. "There is something for everyone, including music, food, community resources and games. It is a wonderful opportunity to connect with friends and neighbors, and to enjoy the beautiful park in the heart of the West Bayfront."

Gridley Park National Night Out is organized by a West Bayfront Events Committee, a collaboration that includes local neighborhood improvement group Our West Bayfront, six neighborhood associations/watch groups, First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, Episcopal Cathedral of St. Paul, Woman's Club of Erie, Strong Vincent Middle School, and Inter-church Ministries of Erie County. Major event sponsors include United Way of Erie County, which sponsors dozens of NNO events across the region, along with Gannon University, and Three B's Saloon.

Attending residents will have the opportunity to meet with law enforcement officials, participate in various activities and raffles, receive a free meal and hear live music from local band Familiar Spirit. Over 30 public and non-profit agencies and organizations will offer information and resources throughout the evening. Children's activities include bounce houses, face painting, yoga and a scavenger hunt.

The event, which attracts over 1,000 participants, has grown each year with the involvement of new partners. "This year we are so pleased that several new organizations are participating, including the Woman's Club of Erie, the expERIEnce Children's Museum, and Lake Erie Arboretum at Frontier Park," said Frantz. "Each of these groups, and dozens more, create the experiences that make this event special."

Gridley Park National Night Out is supported with grants and contributions from over a dozen local groups and businesses. In addition to the organizations listed above, sponsors include Smith Provisions, Bayfront Convenience Store, Electrical and Mechanical Systems, Inc, Copy King, Hoffman United, Dinner is Served by Lisa, Diverse Collaboration and Consulting, JC Everything Automotive, Burton Funeral Homes, United Neighborhood Facilities Health Care Corporation, Erie Club, Frontier Pharmacy, Sterrett Mott Breski & Shimek, The Red Door Uniforms, and Hagan Business Machines, and Familiar Spirit.

"We are extremely appreciative of our many sponsors and partners," said Frantz. "It is because of their willingness to donate their time and resources that we are able to make this night a reality. It is truly encouraging to see the community coming together to promote safety and neighborhood pride."
