Day of Caring 2022

Gannon University is continuing its tradition of Day of Caring with about 350 Gannon students, faculty and staff expected to answer the call for service at more than 20 locations on Saturday, April 2.

This initiative will focus on neighborhoods adjacent to campus, including areas that are part of Erie-Gannon Alliances to Improve Neighborhood Sustainability, or Erie-GAINS, neighborhoods, as well as the Our West Bayfront initiative organized and funded in part by Gannon University.

The Ruskin campus Day of Caring will take place on April 9 as part of United Way Suncoast’s Week of Caring. Ruskin campus faculty, staff and students will be serving at a pantry housing donations for foster families, which is run by a member of the campus staff.

Notable projects include the Martin Luther King Center:

In partnership with Bayfront NATO Inc., volunteers will clean windows at the daycare and pick up trash around the center and neighboring apartments.

Gridley Park:

Volunteers will visit various locations in Gridley Park to mulch, plant flowers, pick up yard debris and litter, paint benches, rake leaves and distribute flyers.

Westerdhal Park:

Students will be furthering the mission of the Our West Bayfront by cleaning up Westerdhal Park, a “pocket park” at the corner of Fourth and Poplar streets, as well as sharing information about the park and the OWB with immediate neighbors.
