Gannon's Totem is an award-winning literary arts magazine.

Gannon University’s award-winning literary arts magazine, Totem, is seeking submissions in art, poetry and prose for its upcoming 2022 edition.

The deadline is Nov. 9 for art submissions and Nov. 30 for poetry and prose submissions. Work can be emailed to totem@gannon.edu or delivered to 3215 Palumbo Academic Center. Submissions should include a title, name, year and program.

Students from across disciplines as well as Gannon faculty and staff are invited to submit their art and written work.

Selected submissions will be published in Totem and released during the Gannon Writing Awards night in April 2022. A select artwork will also be featured as part of the publication’s cover design.

Totem is a student-produced magazine with a long-standing tradition of winning top honors for design and content from the American Scholastic Press Association. Most recently, Totem received three awards including the Highest Magazine Awards/Most Outstanding College Literary – Art Magazine for 2020. The publication also received the First Place with Special Merit award for colleges and university with enrollment of 2,501 or more, as well as Outstanding Theme – Three Separate Magazines in a box.

2021 marked the 25th consecutive year that Totem received first-place recognition in the annual competition.

Carol HayesTotem adviser and associate professor of English, said that the staff of Totem have been working hard to prepare the delivery of the 2022 Totem after a pandemic-related delay. The team is excited to reopen submissions to the 2022 Totem and release its next edition during the annual Writing Awards Night in April.

“On behalf of Totem staff, I strongly urge you to consider this: if you have created a story or a poem or a piece of art, please don’t resist the possibility of sharing it,” Hayes said.
