Gannon Collects Two PSAC Top Team GPA Awards
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference 2020-21 Top Team GPA Awards
Gannon's women's cross country and volleyball programs each collected PSAC Top Team GPA awards after the conference announced its honorees for the 2020-21 academic year on Thursday afternoon.
The PSAC created the GPA honors in 2011-12 to recognize the programs with the top cumulative team GPA in each of the league's 23 sponsored sports — with indoor and outdoor track and field counted as one sport per gender for the awards.
Volleyball grabbed the academic award with a 3.794 team cumulative GPA while women's cross country earned the honors at 3.742 to bring the departments all-time total of Top Team GPA awards to 50.
Volleyball posted a 18-4 overall record and wrapped up its season at the AVCA National Championship Tournament in Dallas. The Golden Knights went 2-4 in the tournament after picking up wins over Texas Woman's and Arkansas Fort Smith.
Women's cross country completed the abbreviated 2020-21 season with three all-conference performances that pushed the Knights to a program-best fourth-place finish at the PSAC Championships.
Across the department, Gannon finished third among 18 PSAC schools with a cumulative 3.440 GPA. For the conference overall, the GPA rose for the ninth consecutive year to a 3.341 in 2020-21. These awards come shortly after Gannon set a new program-best with 336 PSAC Scholar-Athlete honors.
