Gannon's Erie campus.
Gannon University is transitioning its Master of Science in Family Nurse Practitioner program to an online delivery that provides working professionals the opportunity to expand their nursing practice on a schedule and in a location that is tailored to their individual needs.
Applications are now being accepted for the online Master of Science in Family Nurse Practitioner program with a start date of the Fall 2021 semester. The program’s cost is $790 per credit for the 2021-22 academic year with no additional fees included, making it a convenient and affordable option.
All courses in this 48-credit program are delivered in an online asynchronous format, which students can complete on their own time. Students in the program will only be required to visit campus to complete an evaluation of skills and competencies as part of the advanced physical assessment and are offered flexible scheduling to do so.
Students also complete a minimum of 544 clinical hours that are coordinated in conjunction and with the support of Gannon nursing faculty to provide valuable experience.
Students in this online program receive individualized support throughout their graduate experience. Students are linked with an online engagement coordinator from Gannon who facilitates online orientation for new students, implementing strategies to ensure students are active in their courses while providing online student support through a variety of high touch methods.
In addition, these services include providing a connection to Gannon’s comprehensive student services. Students can access laboratories and facilities on campus at their convenience to enhance their learning.
Graduates are well prepared to care for patients across the lifespan through the comprehensive online courses and diverse clinical experiences. Students learn to assess, diagnose and implement advanced practice care to individuals, families and groups in the community setting with an additional focus on ethical dilemmas and legal issues related to this mid-level provider role.
The program equips students with the foundational knowledge needed to complete a national certification examination to obtain licensure as a certified nurse practitioner. Graduates can take one of two exams that are issued by The American Nurses Credentialing Center or The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
Throughout the program, students will gain the competencies needed in their career including:
- Using theory and research from nursing, the biopsychosocial sciences, and the humanities to care for members of diverse populations.
- Conducting research, collaborating with researchers from across disciplines and implementing those research findings in practice.
- Becoming a leader to influence change in health care practice at local, regional and national levels through the role of administrator, researcher or practitioner.
- Engaging in collaborative relationships as an advanced practice nurse with professionals from various disciplines and members of diverse populations to improve health care.
- Acquiring a foundation for doctoral study.
