    Gannon University’s offers an online RN to BSN degree (Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing) accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The program provides registered nurses with the knowledge, training and faculty mentoring needed to successfully transition a nursing career from the bedside into one of a skilled nurse leader. This online program is designed to accommodate busy personal and professional schedules and to help the adult learner achieve the next steps in their professional nursing education.

    The online RN-BSN program offers a “portfolio” option that grants course credit for professional nursing experiences. Students will learn from faculty with both clinical and academic expertise who take a student-centered, community-based approach to train students.

    In 2010 the Institute of Medicine (IOM) issued The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health. This report not only informs and highlights the need for change in nursing education to meet the demanding and dynamic environment of healthcare, but also recommends increasing the number of registered nurses with a bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) to 80 percent by the year 2020. 

    You Will Experience

    With courses that are available in seven- or 14-week sessions during fall, spring and summer semesters, the online RN-BSN program offers a well-crafted curriculum. In addition to the nursing core, all electives offered in the program are nursing-focused. A passion for patient care, training nurse leaders and preparing students for diverse career opportunities are at the core of the program.

    Students receive a thorough grounding in the theoretical foundations of nursing as well as exposure to the nursing research process, which directly impacts quality patient outcomes. A completely online program ensures vibrant interaction with peers and faculty located in diverse parts of the U.S.

    Students will be prepared to advance in the largest profession of the growing healthcare sector of the economy. The online RN-BSN program prepares registered nurses for a lifelong career and prepares them to pursue further nursing education (MSN, DNP, Ph.D.) and other avenues for professional advancement.

    The employment outlook for nurses is excellent. Estimates indicate that employment will grow 22 percent by 2018. Many employers now require a Bachelor of Science in nursing credential for advancement. Salaries in the field vary depending on the location and type of organization.

    The online RN-BSN program offers a variety of courses to extend and enhance the skill set of the professional registered nurse. Notable courses in the program include:

    NURS 203: Transition to Professional Nursing

    This course introduces the major concepts of person, environment, health and nursing. The process for creation of and validation of course outcomes by portfolio is presented, practiced and refined. Virtual clinical experiences are included in this course. 

    NURS 408: Management and Leadership in Nursing

    This course focuses on the knowledge and skills related to the delivery of healthcare services within a nursing management context. Theories, concepts and models are presented to give the student an understanding of the knowledge base required for effective management and leadership in professional nursing practice. The course provides the knowledge and skills necessary to apply principles in planning and delegating nursing care and discusses developing creative roles for managing and leading in nursing. Portfolio options are available for this course.

    NURS 414: Promoting Healthy Communities

    In this course, the student will gain a perspective of professional nursing at the community level of practice. The course examines specific issues and societal concerns that impact community health nursing practice, including risk factors and health problems for defined populations across the lifespan and the healthcare needs for populations at risk, including communicable disease risk and prevention.  Adult learning teaching strategies are employed in this course and students participate in faculty-guided independent clinical experiences.

    Gannon's Online Engagement Coordinator facilitates our online new student orientations, implements strategies to ensure that online students are active in their online courses, and provides general online student support through a variety of high-touch methods to engage students and support student retention efforts. Gannon online students can reach out with general questions about online learning or how to remotely access Gannon's comprehensive student services.

    Online students have access to all of Gannon's campus amenities!  Get your Gannon ID card for free and use it to access our newly renovated Nash Library and Student Learning Commons at 6th and Sassafras streets.  Students also have full access to our Rec Center including fitness classes (think Yoga, Cycle, Pilates and more) at no charge.  Online students can use a Gannon ID while dining on campus and receive a discount on your purchase.  A Gannon ID also gets online students free admittance to Gannon athletic events.  Local online students can ride the "e" with a Gannon ID for free!
