Digital Media Communication graduates have won Emmy Awards and other notable media awards working for Nickelodeon, Disney, DreamWorks Animation, SKG and many others in New York, Los Angeles and markets around the country.

    • Graduates have won Emmy Awards and other notable media awards while working for Nickelodeon, Disney, DreamWorks Animation, SKG and many other media organizations in New York, Los Angeles and markets around the country.
    • Gannon University’s student-run radio station, 90.5 WERG-FM, was the national champion in two categories at the annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Conference in 2017, and a finalist for the Best College Station in the Nation award, an honor the station received in 2014.
    • Students produce, organize and appear in productions, including, Knight in the Kitchen, a cooking show; GUREVU, a sports magazine program; Prime Time Sports Guys, a sports talk show and Edge, Gannon’s web magazine that incorporates writing, design, blogging and video.

    Digital communication skills are valued in every business. Students build the skills necessary to develop a varied communication portfolio, gain valuable real-world experience in the field and get a head start on a career. Students will learn to design engaging content for a variety of audiences and media. Faculty in the School of Communication and the Arts are experienced teachers who will help to develop creativity in a challenging and caring environment.

    Digital Media majors have broad opportunities for internships within walking distance or a short drive from Gannon’s campus. Internship options include:

    Example Course Descriptions

    The digital media curriculum, developed by industry-experienced faculty, provides students with a well-rounded education through practical application and communication expertise. Examples of core and elective courses include:

    COMM 211: Television Production

    A skills orientation in the basic technological considerations of television studio production, including camera operation, lighting, audio, graphics, special effects, switching and non-linear editing.

    COMM 341: Media Management

    A study of the basic principles of management theory as they apply specifically to broadcast station organization, programming, sales, engineering and the broadcast regulatory environment using both lecture and case-study approaches.

    COMM 356: Digital Graphics

    Digital Graphics is an exploration of the theories and skills required for visual electronic communication. Using traditional and non-traditional studio techniques, the student will produce a portfolio of electronic imagery. Through this accumulation of sensitivities and skills, the student will be able to effectively and efficiently produce messages for the electronic media.

    The Liberal Studies Core Curriculum is one reflection of Gannon University's commitment to its Catholic identity. The Core's design offers students a defined, integrated, shared experience as the foundation for their undergraduate program.
