Admission Requirements

  • The following lists admissions requirements for the Physician Assistant Program in Ruskin, FL.

    • A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university
    • A minimum 3.0 overall GPA is required
    • A minimum 3.0 science course GPA is required
    • A minimum 3.0 prerequisite course GPA is required
    • Course prerequisites must have been completed within the last ten years
    • Recommendation forms from three evaluators
    • A personal interview

    Prerequisites

    Prerequisite Course Requirements for entry into the Post-Baccalaureate PA program include (must be completed prior to enrollment):

    • General Chemistry (or above) including 2 credits of lab8 credits
    • Human Anatomy*:  3 credits
    • Human Anatomy Lab*:  1 credit
    • Human Physiology*3 credits
    • Human Physiology Lab1 credit
    • Genetics (200 level or above)3 credits
    • Medical Terminology1-3 credits                                 
    • Statistics3 credits
    • Microbiology (Medical Preferred)3 credits
    • Microbiology Lab1 credit
    • Psychology3 credits

    * Anatomy & Physiology 1 and Anatomy & Physiology 2 course and lab sequences are acceptable

    Prerequisite courses must be from a regionally accredited college or university.

    Advanced standing is not granted in the program.

    No credits are awarded for experiential learning.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    • 30 hours of documented volunteer/paid medical experience or 30 hours of shadowing a Physician Assistant - Documentation will need provided and signed by preceptor on organizational letterhead or the Gannon University hours template on CASPA.
    • Altus Suite - admissions assessments of non-cognitive skills

      All applicants are required to complete Altus Suite as part of their 2021/2022 admissions cycle. To complete Altus Suite visit TakeAltus to create an account and complete the following assessments:

      • Casper: 60-90 minute online, open response situational judgement test (SJT)
      • Snapshot: 10-minute one-way video interview with standardized questions

      You will register for the American Professional Health Sciences test (CSP10101) and reserve a test. Specific test dates are assigned each year.  Please register as soon as possible and prior to the December 1 application deadline.

    • All international students must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and Test of Spoken English (TSE) exams.  A minimum TOEFL score of 600 (paper test) or 250 (computer-based test) and a minimum TSE score of 50 are required for application.
