Political, Legal and International Studies Department Gannon University believes in the many paths leaders can travel. Whether you are interested in American politics, comparative government, international relations or political theory, Gannon’s political science program can help you explore possibilities for leadership and broaden your horizons. As a political science major, you will study a diverse set of topics, including the principles of the American Founding, the thought of such theorists as St. Augustine, Machiavelli and John Stuart Mill, the impact of globalization, politics of the European Union, and America’s role in world affairs. At Gannon, we also focus on the role of values in politics. Students will debate issues such as the proper role of religion in the public sphere, and the formulation of policy responses to humanitarian crises or acts of genocide. Students will develop research, writing and analytical skills that will help to prepare them for a wide variety of careers. Graduates of political science are qualified for administrative and management trainee positions in fields such as: legislation and policy research, public relations, personnel, budget analysis, security investigation, media, city management, urban planning, public administration and the Foreign Service.
