Gannon University's ShakeXperience Theatre Camp Takes the Stage

Posted: July 19, 2013

"If music be the food of love, play on, give me excess of it, that, surfeiting..." The music, history and movement of William Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" are among the list of theatrical workshops offered at Gannon University's ShakeXperience summer theatre camp.

ShakeXperience is a week long camp for high school students interested in all aspects of theater and the works of Shakespeare. Hosted by the University's Department of Theatre, Communications and Fine Arts, participants will receive a first-hand experience of a Gannon education.

Students will stay in a Gannon residence hall July 22 through 27, dine at the campus cafeteria and explore the excitement of summer in downtown Erie.

Faculty, staff and expert guest instructors will teach workshops from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Schuster Theatre. Instructors will use a "teach by doing" philosophy during workshops in performance, text analysis, movement, music, history and improvisation. Students will also rehearse Shakespearean scenes and monologues throughout the week to perform at the end of the camp in the ShakeXperience Showcase.
