University Announces New Director for Marketing & Communications

Gannon enthusiastically announces the appointment of Melanie A. Whaley as the University's Director for Marketing & Communications. In this new position, Whaley will provide strategic leadership for the University’s integrated marketing and communications, including media, public relations, promotion, and advertising.
She joins Gannon from Scott Enterprises, a privately held, award-winning hospitality company with 22+ brands that include restaurants, hotels, conference centers, a ski and golf resort, and a top-ten North American water park resort, where she served as Director of Marketing.
At Scott Enterprises, she oversaw an in-house advertising agency, internal and external marketing and communications, media relations, crisis communications, creative services, strategic business development, and promotion of the company’s brands.
“In creating this position, Gannon University acknowledges the importance of articulating our vision across a number of communications platforms at a time when those platforms offer unprecedented opportunities,” said Gannon President Keith Taylor, Ph.D. “Melanie has an instinctive grasp of this dynamic communications landscape and boundless energy to explore the opportunities they present. As we move forward with a new strategic plan, her experience and diverse skill set position her for leadership at this significant moment in the University’s history.”
Whaley is a 1995 graduate of Gannon’s College of Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences, earning a degree in communications. She has a diverse background in media, non-profit management, advertising sales, and consulting.
She has directed efforts in public relations, creative concept development, media production, marketing research and strategy, brand positioning, website development, event planning, and social media marketing for clients in the retail, education, legal, and hospitality sectors, among others. She was honored by the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters with its award for Excellence in Broadcasting.
