The Erie County Historical Society has appointed Erie native Shelby
Graml ’18 as its new events and outreach coordinator.
Graml, 24, began her duties on Monday. She earned a degree in marketing
from Gannon University in 2017.
"I'm here to plan any events we have on site and I'm in charge of making
new events for the Historical Society," Graml said. "To expand it, they
want a bit of the younger generation, so that's what I'm here to do and
research and find out what kind of events we can hold that will bring
in that type of crowd."
During her senior year at Gannon, Graml worked an internship as events
coordinator in the school's recreation and wellness center.
She worked recently as social media director for Erie lawyer Ed Smith's
campaign for Erie County Common Pleas Judge.
"I feel this is an essential part of our operation," Historical Society
Executive Director George Deutsch said. "We have public events, private
events, holiday parties, and we have to have somebody on board who can
coordinate all that. We want to expand. We want to look for more
bookings for using the Watson-Curtze Mansion for all types of events."
The Watson-Curtze Mansion is one of several buildings on the Thomas
Hagen History Center grounds at 356 W. Sixth St.
"Also, at our Wood-Morrison House, we have an excellent set of meeting
rooms," Deutsch said. "We want to be able to reach out to the community
with our events coordinator to let businesses and folks know that this
is an opportunity to have their events in a great setting."
Deutsch said he wanted to fill the events coordinator job opening with
someone who had strong ties to the Erie community.
"I really wanted somebody who had a good handle on the community who
could develop from here," Deutsch said. "I think someone has to really
know the community to be able to fully get into the community to have us
out there."
