Robert Peirce & Associates today announced the promotion of Margaret Cooney '16 from law clerk to associate attorney after passing her bar examination in early October. Cooney has worked with the firm since May 2017.
As an associate attorney, Cooney will support the healthcare liability department, working on nursing home and medical malpractice cases.
Cooney graduated Magna cum Laude from Duquesne University School of Law in May 2018 with her Juris Doctor. As a student, she was a senior staff editor for the Duquesne Law Review. Cooney competed in three national trial advocacy competitions with Duquesne University’s Trial Advocacy program, with her team advancing to semi-final rounds. For her achievements in trial advocacy, Cooney was inducted into the Order of Barristers. Cooney has also earned numerous awards including the Kandy Reidbord Ehrenwerth Award, the Lynette Norton Memorial Award, and the CALI Excellence for the Future Award for highest overall grade in six courses.
Prior to joining Robert Peirce & Associates, Cooney was a research assistant at Duquesne University and completed an internship with the Office of the Allegheny County Public Defender in the Trial Division. Cooney entered Duquesne Law after her junior year of her undergraduate program, and graduated from Gannon University with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Pre-law in 2016.
Cooney resides in Squirrel Hill and enjoys reading and acting in musical theatre in her free time.
