The Need to Plan for Long-Term and Extended Health Care

Loesel-Schaff Insurance AgencyIt's difficult for working-aged adults and healthy seniors to imagine a time when they might need long-term care (LTC); it seems so far off. While many people do need this type of care as the natural result of aging, each year millions of Americans of all ages are faced with the sudden disruption to their lives and their family's lifestyle and finances due to a disability, chronic illness or cognitive issue that was totally unforeseen. Therefore, it's important that everyone understands their options and the consequences of their choices regarding long-term and extended health care planning.

If you or a family member suddenly needed assistance with the everyday activities of life, how would you be prepared to meet the expense of that care while maintaining the family lifestyle you've worked so hard to establish? Who in the family will provide the daily care, and for how long before their own commitments and responsibilities are negatively affected?

Long-term care is difficult enough on its own; what makes it even more difficult is a lack of planning. The topic of long- term and extended health care planning also tends to generate both questions and anxiety. Making decisions related to this important topic can be so challenging that it is easier to just put it off until another day, but therein lies the problem. Education is the solution.

The Gannon University Alumni Association is pleased to offer you the opportunity to learn more about this very important issue through our Long-Term Care Education and Planning Program (LTCEPP).

This program, presented in partnership with Loesel-Schaaf Insurance Agency of Erie and their nationwide network of LTC Education Specialists, will provide you with education and information on the risks, costs, consequences and the impact of needing long-term and extended health care, and most importantly, options that will help you protect your most important asset - your family.

This comprehensive program will cover such topics as:

    • Explanation and risks of long-term or extended health care
    • What are my options?
    • The consequences of not planning
    • The current cost of care and projected increases
    • Why address this now?
    • Is LTC insurance appropriate?
    • Types and affordability of policies

This educational program can be provided in a number of formats - individual appointments (either in-person or over the web), scheduled webinars, and group seminars throughout Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio and upstate New York.  Please watch for more information on this website and by email.

While long-term care insurance isn't for everyone, having a long-term care plan is essential for all of us.  The Alumni Association wants to provide you with education about your options so that you can make an informed decision. If insurance is found to be an appropriate part of your plan, it is available to alumni and their eligible family members, children, siblings, parents, grandparents, and in-laws.

The risk of needing long-term care is very real, and we hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about your options to protect your family against the impact and consequences of long- term or extended health care.

In addition to you receiving valuable discounts, Loesel-Schaaf has also agreed to make a contribution to the Alumni Association Endowed Legacy "Power" Scholarship, which provides scholarship opportunities to the children of Gannon and Villa Maria alumni.
