part-time freelancing jobs to write novels in 2015. She published her

Women's Fiction novel, Zahner has published three thrillers, The Suicide
Gene, Dream Wide Awake, and Project Dream, and has a fifth book coming

I’ve heard those words from Luther Manus ’53 ’71M hundreds of times during my 31-year career at the Erie Times-News.
Manus frequently visited the Erie Times-News offices over the years to
speak with myself or colleagues. The U.S. Army veteran, teacher,
educator and business owner had a voracious interest in what was
happening in town, especially when it came to education and children.
So he would often stop by West 12th and Sassafras to chat with folks and
find out. And Manus was always funny, gracious, inquisitive and
pleasant.

A spring internship at Corry Police Department in 1989 turned into a
30-year career for Corry Police Chief Rich Shopene ’89, who's retiring
from his position on Oct. 24.
Shopene went to Gannon University and finished with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice.
He went to Mercyhurst University Municipal Police Training Academy in
May 1990 and was hired as a police officer at CPD that following June.

Mattis finished his seventh season as a volunteer assistant coach with
the Gannon women's golf team. Even though the golf season came to an
abrupt end in March because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lady Knights
were outstanding during the fall portion of their season. They won three
of six tournaments, including the PSAC championship. With that
championship, they earned an automatic berth in the NCAA Division II
East Super Regional Tournament, which was eventually cancelled.

Walters served as graduate assistant coach at Walsh University, a

Nate DeSimone ’04M is no stranger to athletics.
While growing up in Youngsville, DeSimone participated in four sports
while attending high school – football (quarterback, middle linebacker),
wrestling and track and field (mainly javelin and discus, but also pole
vault, long jump and occasionally, the 1600-meter relay).
Youngsville High School did not have a baseball team but had a
cooperative agreement with Tidioute High School, where DeSimone played.
