    Microsoft Office Specialist

    Microsoft OfficeYou can earn the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Excel Certification as early as your sophomore year. In a required course for all business students (BCOR 215 - Principles of Accounting II), you'll take the MOS Excel Exam to earn your certification. Companies in a broad range of industries use Microsoft programs, especially Excel, and this certification is valuable no matter what direction your career takes.

    Certified Six Sigma Yellow Belt

     6 SigmaYou don't have to wait until you graduate to get certified as a Six Sigma Yellow Belt. This certification (CSSYB) arms you with a foundational understanding of all phases of the DMAIC (define, measure, analyze, improve and control) model at the core of the Six Sigma framework. You'll demonstrate to employers your proven commitment to improving business quality through compliance with quality standards. Take our (MGMT 350) Quality Management course, designed to prepare you for taking and passing the exam. 

    Certified Associate in Project Management

    CAPMBetween 2014-2019 project management roles grew by more than 40%. By 2027, it is predicted that 22 million new project management jobs will be available globally. Why not get a certification in project management while you're still in college? Business students can enroll in our Project Management (MGMT 330) course. Here, you'll learn the skills to move a team forward toward a common goal, while demonstrating a sound understanding of the connection of planning, communication and direction in the corporate environment. Before you graduate, you can seek the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certification through the Project Management Institute. The CAPM certification recognizes your knowledge of the profession's preeminent global standard, making you stand out to employers.

    QuickBooks Certified Users

    QuickbooksOur accounting faculty understand graduates possessing both technical competency and accounting specific technology skills have a competitive edge in the workforce.  In ACCT305 (Intermediate Financial Accounting I) our majors can become QuickBooks Certified Users. This credential will be a clear indication to employers that you have demonstrated competency in setting up companies of various types, and that you are skilled at recoding transactions and using multiple accounting reports to analyze results. By taking and passing the exam, you will distinguish yourself with future employers as you proudly display this earned certification on your resume.


    In a required international elective course, where we team up with  X-Culture, our business students have the opportunity to be part of a global virtual business consulting team. You and your teammates from around the globe will work together to solve an internationaX-Culturel business challenge. Teams present their challenge solutions and upon completion of the course receive a Global Collaboration Experience Certificate. Students can use this certificate on their resume, to land a job interview, promotion or even enter a graduate program in international business. A certificate like this in today's global workplace is invaluable.

    Do you want the opportunity to engage directly with the sport industry? Our faculty in the Sport Management & Marketing program have numerous connections with both local and national sports organizations (Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Erie SeaWolves, Buffalo Bills, and more). These relationships allow you to hear from leading experts in the field through guest lectures and gain valuable experience through internship opportunities.  Our students can travel with the program faculty to events like the NFL Super Bowl, the NFL Draft and MLB All-Star Week to have on-site, hands-on experience.  Students from all majors are welcome and you can count on at least one on-site trip to a national event each year.

    The School of Business is located in the Center for Business Ingenuity (CBI), a space designed to look and feel like a corporate headquarters.  CBI is also home to all the entrepreneurial entities affiliated with Gannon.  This includes the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), the NWPA Innovation Beehive, and the Erie Technology Incubator (ETI). As a student, you can develop a business idea, get assistance from SBDC and the NWPA Innovation Beehive Network free of charge, and then apply to house your business in ETI.

    Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Association Program

    Volunteer TaxAccounting majors, under the direction of the accounting faculty and in partnership with the United Way of Erie County, participate annually in the Internal Revenue Service's (IRS) Volunteer Income Tax Association (VITA) Program. The VITA Program has operated for over 50 years, offering free tax help to those who need assistance in preparing their tax return including:

    • People who generally make $57,000/year or less
    • Persons with disabilities; and
    • Limited English-speaking taxpayers

    United WayOur students prepare anywhere between 250-400 tax returns each spring semester as part of this program. Gannon is proud to be a VITA-approved site, and this experience allows our students earn IRS-certified volunteer status.
