    • Dr. Christine Saber is serving as the Head Mentor for the U.S. National High School Chemistry Olympiad, traveling to Slovakia & Czech Republic with the United States delegation in summer 2018.
    • Dr. Matthew Heerboth led a Gannon University T.R.A.V.E.L. course to Italy in May, which featured a culinary focus and involved majors from our department.
    • Congratulations are in order for senior chemistry major Ms. Maureen Kennell! She was selected as this year's recipient of the College Chemistry Award sponsored by the Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh.
    • In May, two graduating seniors were honored with Gannon University Founders' Day Awards. Ms. Aerial Pratt received the award for biochemistry and Mr. Dennis Seth received the award for chemistry. Congratulations!
    • Biochemistry major Ms. Rachel Stubler received the Outstanding First-Year Chemistry Award from the Erie Local Section of the American Chemical Society in April, in recognition of her outstanding achievements in the general chemistry sequence.
    • Mr. Blaine Laird, senior chemistry major, presented his research on density functional theory with Dr. Timothy Laher at the annual Sigma Xi Undergraduate Research Conference in April.
    • Our chemistry students amazed kids with the science of small materials at our eighth annual NanoDays, hosted at the ExpERIEnce Children's Museum. The event was led by Dr. Weslene Tallmadge and Dr. Lisa Nogaj. Check out our spot on the local news here!
    • Dr. Betty Jo Chitester and Dr. Keith Krise organized a Chemists Celebrate Earth Day event in the city of Erie, where faculty members and students raised awareness about ocean chemistry and donated homegrown plants to community members.
    • Dr. Ria Betush was a featured presenter at a spring meeting of the Erie Local Section of the American Chemical Society, where she presented her research on "Understanding Molecular Interactions for Peptide Self-Assembly".
