Welcome to Gannon University, a community of motivated students,
dynamic faculty, exceptional staff and successful alumni.
This is an extraordinary time to be at this University. Seventy
years after we first began offering baccalaureate degrees, more
students are enrolled at Gannon that at any point in the last 24
years. They come to a campus that has grown, both in its physical
footprint and in the depth and richness of its academic and
In the last 12 months, we invested more than $25 million in a newly
renovated Recreation and Wellness Center, a Center for Business Ingenuity that will house
the Dahlkemper School of Business as well as Gannon's Erie
Technology Incubator and Small Business Development Center, a new
School of Communication and the Arts and a Forensic Investigation Center.
As impressive as these buildings are, it is the promise they
hold for transformative experiences —academically, in collaboration
with and service to the community—that commands attention.
And we have received this attention, both from U.S. News &
World Report's "America's Best Colleges, which placed Gannon ninth
on the list of "Best Value Schools" in the North Region, and by the
Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching with its 2015 Community Engagement Classification, an honor that recognizes
Gannon's deep historical commitment to service and care for
humanity and the community.
This commitment to transformative experiences is at the heart of
the Gannon University promise. Broadly stated, that promise is to
be known as a leader in offering innovative academic programs that
are connected to community needs and focused on creating public
impact; to promote student learning such that graduates embrace
their roles and responsibilities as world citizens and to foster a
culture of creativity and continuous improvement to ensure
excellence, efficiency and financial sustainability.
In everything we do, Gannon University honors its tradition as a
Catholic university, measuring its success by how and whom it
educates and serves.
We recognize that, now more than ever, quality U.S. higher
education must be affordable and accessible, and must benefit the
public good. Gannon is committed to transforming the economic,
social and cultural vitality and well-being of our community. In
doing so, we will embrace innovation and change with optimism. To
be competitive in a rapidly evolving, global higher education
environment, new approaches will be pervasive in our organizational
culture and new methods and technologies will be integrated into
our teaching, program design and delivery. Wherever Gannon students
engage in learning, we will intentionally link student learning
with the communities we serve, and expand our context for education
to a worldview.
This is the tradition nourished and sustained by the more than
35,000 successful alumni residing in every state of the nation and
in 57 countries worldwide.
I invite you to explore the many possibilities offered by Gannon
