GANNON
CLOSES CWPA WESTERN
CHAMPIONSHIPS WITH LOSSES
GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Gannon University
women’s water polo team (9-14) closed its final day at the Collegiate
Water Polo Association (CWPA) Western Division Championships and the
2008 season with a pair of losses to the University of Michigan and
Mercyhurst College Sunday.
The Wolverines blanked the Lady Knights 21-0 (6-0, 7-0, 6-0, 2-0) in
the morning match and Gannon lost 16-6 (2-2, 7-2, 2-1, 5-1) to
Mercyhurst in the nightcap.
Niki Hoffa (Spinking Springs,
Pa./Governor Mifflin) recorded six blocks against Michigan and
seven against the Lakers.
Kendra Plackemeier (Bonsall,
Calif./Fallbrook) scored three goals in the Lady Knights’ second
match.
Annie Greenhill (Brea, Calif./Brea
Olinda) closed the 2008 season as Gannon’s offensive leader with
62 goals. The tally puts Greenhill fourth among Gannon’s single-season
goal scoring leaders. The sophomore is third among the Lady Knights’
all-time career goal scorers with 113.
Senior Val Adams (Erie, Pa./McDowell)
sits seventh among Gannon’s career goals leaders with 84.
Gannon coach Don Sherman reached the century mark this season,
achieving his 100th win on March 16 against Slippery Rock. Sherman has
103 wins overall.
