GANNON
CLOSES REGULAR
SEASON WITH 12-7 WIN
WASHINGTON, Pa. – Adjustments at half time
swung momentum Gannon’s way, as the women’s water polo team took a 12-7
victory over Washington & Jefferson College at Henry Memorial
Center in Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) action.
Down 6-4 after two quarters, the Lady Knights (8-12, 3-4) shut down
W&J’s offense in the second half. Gannon allowed just one goal in
contest’s final 16 minutes, which came in the final frame.
Gannon scored five of its eight second-half goals in the fourth quarter.
The match began with a 3-3 tie after eight minutes. W&J (6-9, 2-4)
posted three more goals in the second quarter and held the Lady Knights
to one.
Annie Greenhill (Brea, Calif./Brea
Olinda) headlined Gannon’s offense in its final match of the
regular season. The sophomore tallied seven goals, enough to place her
third among Gannon’s all-time career scoring leaders by one at 111.
Kendra Plackemeier (Bonsall,
Calif./Fallbrook) found the back of the cage three times. Brenna Pease (Erie, Pa./McDowell) scored
twice.
Gannon’s Niki Hoffa (Sinking Springs,
Pa./Governor Mifflin) made four blocks in net.
The Lady Knights will compete at the CWPA Western Division
Championships, hosted by Grove City College, beginning Friday, April
18.
