LADY
KNIGHTS DOWN D-I VILLANOVA
AT SIENA INVITATIONAL
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – The Gannon University
women’s water polo team improved to 2-2 this season after defeating
Division I Villanova 11-9 Sunday morning at the Siena Invitational,
hosted by Siena College.
Gannon blanked their D-I opponent 5-0 in the first quarter and never
let go of the lead.
The Wildcats outscored Gannon 3-2 in the second frame and held the Lady
Knights scoreless in the third, while adding three more goals to their
tally.
Gannon allowed three goals in the final quarter and produced four of
its own to give the Lady Knights a two-point victory.
Sophomore Annie Greenhill (Brea,
Calif./Brea Olinda), Gannon’s top-returning offensive player,
recorded a team-high four goals and three assists.
Katelyn Hansen (Erie, Pa./McDowell)
led the Lady Knights with three steals.
Freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Komorek
(Erie, Pa./McDowell) blocked seven Villanova shots and made two
steals.
The Lady Knights are 2-4 all-time against the Wildcats.
Gannon kicked off the Siena Invitational on Saturday against Utica
College. The Lady Knights beat the Pioneers 14-2 (2-1, 7-0, 4-0, 1-1).
Brenna Pease (Erie, Pa./Iroquois)
and Caitlin Andrews (Tustin,
Calif./Tustin) headlined the Lady Knights with three goals
apiece.
Komorek recorded six saves.
Gannon squared off against Division I Iona in the matinee match. The
Gaels defeated the Lady Knights 20-8 (3-2, 7-1, 3-2, 7-3).
Greenhill posted five goals.
Komorek made six saves.
Gannon begins a four-day California road trip at 7 p.m. March 4 at
California Lutheran.
