LADY
KNIGHTS SPLIT DAY AGAINST
CWPA COMPETITION
ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon University women’s
water polo team opened Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA)
conference action by playing host to University of Michigan and
Slippery Rock University Sunday afternoon.
Gannon (3-9, 1-1) fell to Division I Michigan 19-7 but rebounded with
an 11-6 victory over Slippery Rock in the matinee game.
The Lady Knights, ranked 10th in the CWPA, blanked The Rock 2-0 in the
first eight minutes of play and never relinquished the lead.
Slippery Rock (0-6, 0-3) posted three goals in the second frame but
Gannon found the back of The Rock’s net three times, as well.
The Lady Knights took the third quarter 3-2 and the final eight minutes
3-1.
Brenna Pease (Erie, Pa./Iroquois)
led Gannon with three goals. Val
Adams (Erie, Pa./McDowell) recorded two.
Goalkeeper Stephanie Komorek (Erie,
Pa./McDowell) made 16 saves for the Lady Knights.
Michigan, ranked first in the CWPA and 12th nationally, set the
precedent in the first quarter by taking it 7-1. The Wolverines (16-9,
4-0) won subsequent frames 6-4, 4-2, and 2-0.
Annie Greenhill (Brea, Calif./Brea
Olinda) put three goals into the Wolverines’ cage. Adams scored
twice.
Komorek recorded four saves.
The Lady Knights hit the pool again on Friday, March 14 at the two-day
Utica Invitational, hosted by Utica College.
