GANNON ANNOUNCES FIRST
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL RECRUIT

ERIE, Pa. - Gannon head women’s volleyball coach Matt Darling has announced the addition of Courtney Cook (Middleburg Heights, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) to the program. Cook is the first student-athlete announced as part of the 2007-08 recruiting class.

Cook was a four-year varsity starter, three-time all-district first-team selection, and three-time all-conference honoree at St. Peter Chanel High School. The 2007 District II Division IV Player of the Year was selected to the Ohio All-Star Game as a senior. She served as a team captain and was named team MVP at the end of the season.

“We are very happy to have Courtney coming to Gannon next year,” said Darling. “She is a great student and an excellent player, and that makes her the kind of person that we want to have in our program. I’m looking forward to coaching her.”

The Middleburg Heights, Ohio native is a two-sport athlete, playing volleyball and basketball. Cook was named to the All-State third team in basketball as a sophomore and the special-mention team as a junior. In addition, she was a two-time all-district first-team and two-time all-conference selection. She was part of a St. Peter Chanel basketball team that won the district championship twice, as well as being a state semifinalist during her junior season.

Cook has been equally impressive in the classroom. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council. Cook has received “Superior Honors” every year for having a 4.0 grade-point average or better. She was also listed in “Who’s Who among High School Students.”

Gannon begins its first season in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) in 2008-09
