RECEIVING VOTES IN LATEST TOP 25
LADY KNIGHTS FACE TWO TOP-16 TEAMS THIS WEEKEND
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon
softball team is among others receiving votes in the latest National Fastpitch
Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top 25 poll released Thursday afternoon.
Alabama-Huntsville (27-4) is the top-ranked team for the second consecutive
week, receiving six of the eight first-place votes and 195 points. Georgia
State & College (24-4) was tabbed second with 190 points. Angelo State
(25-5) picked up the final two first-place votes and sits in third with 183
points. Barry (25-2) and Nebraska-Omaha (9-2) complete the top five.
Lock Haven (12-5), Grand Valley State (10-4), Southeastern Oklahoma (27-4),
UC San Diego (21-9), and Francis Marion (27-6) round out the top 10. Gannon
was among others receiving votes with six points, 10 out of the top 25.
Gannon is off to a 12-4 start after a successful Spring Trip two weeks ago.
The Lady Knights started the season 0-3, before rolling off 11 consecutive
victories. In the process, head coach Beth Curtiss picked up her 250th career
coaching victory.
Four Lady Knights hit over .300 during the Spring Trip, led by Kara Hensley
(Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) and Holli Michaels (Tacoma, Wash./Curtis).
Hensley hit .409 with 12 RBI while Michaels produced a .400 average with
nine runs and four stolen bases.
Lauren Soldner (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) anchored the pitching
staff with a 6-1 record and 0.85 ERA. She held her opponents to a .213 average
in eight appearances.
Gannon returns to action tonight (March 20) at the Salem Invitational. The
Lady Knights battle sixth-ranked Lock Haven at 5 p.m. The squad faces 16th-ranked
Bloomsburg Friday, March 21 at 3 p.m.
