NAMED GLIAC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
ERIE, Pa. - Gannon’s
Kara Hensley (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) and Lauren Soldner
(Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) have been named Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week.
Hensley led Gannon to a 3-1 GLIAC record last week, hitting .462 with two
home runs and six RBI. The junior catcher is hitting .360 this season, raising
her season average 13 points last week. She was perfect in 22 fielding opportunities
last week and has not committed an error in her last 30 games, a span of
84 fielding chances.
The Waterville, Ohio native led Gannon in runs (5), hits (6), doubles (2),
home runs (2), RBI (6), total bases (14), and slugging percentage (1.077)
last week. Hensley went 5-for-6 with five runs and six RBI during a doubleheader
sweep of Lake Superior State, hitting two-run homers in both games. She leads
the team in multiple-RBI games (8) and is tied for the team lead in multiple-hit
games (14).
Soldner went 2-0 last week with a 2.15 ERA during two starts last week. The
redshirt junior tossed complete games in victories over Mercyhurst and Lake
Superior State, increasing her season total to 10. She posted her third shutout
of the season with a 5-0 victory over Mercyhurst.
The Sylvania, Ohio native leads Gannon this season in ERA (1.52), victories
(11), shutouts (3), innings pitched (101.1), and strikeouts (85). She ranks
second among GLIAC pitchers in strikeouts, victories, and innings pitched.
Gannon (23-15, 5-7) returns to action Saturday, April 19 at 23rd-ranked Wayne
State. The GLIAC doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
