GANNON'S HENSLEY NAMED TO
DAKTRONICS ALL-REGION FIRST TEAM
ERIE, Pa. - Gannon’s
Kara Hensley (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) has been named to the
2008 Daktronics All-Great Lakes Region Softball First Team released Wednesday
afternoon. She will now move to the national ballot for All-America consideration.
Hensley landed a spot on the first team as a utility player. The junior played
in 20 games as a catcher, 16 games as a third baseman, 14 games as a designated
hitter, and three games as a first baseman. She hit .311 with a .477 slugging
percentage and .371 on-base percentage in 51 starting assignments.
The Waterville, Ohio native ranked second among GLIAC players in RBI (36)
and fifth in walks (16) while ranking seventh all-time at Gannon in career
RBI (107). Hensley hit .315 (29-92) with runners on base and .348 (23-66)
with runners in scoring position. She had 15 multiple-hit games and a team-best
10 multiple-RBI games.
Hensley started the season with a seven-game hitting streak and never dipped
below a .311 average throughout the entire campaign. She recorded 20 runs,
10 doubles, five home runs, and 72 total bases.
Gannon’s string of three consecutive NCAA Division II Tournament appearances
came to an end with a 1-2 mark at the GLIAC Tournament. The Lady Knights
concluded their season with a 28-23 record, marking the program’s 19th consecutive
winning season.
