GANNON LANDS FOUR PLAYERS ON
ALL-GLIAC SOFTBALL TEAMS
ERIE, Pa. - Four Gannon
softball players have been named to the 2008 All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference (GLIAC) teams released Friday afternoon in conjunction
with the league’s post-season tournament at Emerson Park in Midland, Michigan.
Carol Kienzl (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) and Kara Hensley (Waterville,
Ohio/Anthony Wayne) were named to the All-GLIAC second team. Hannah
Koenig (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Kadie Ondrus (Curtice, Ohio/Clay)
earned All-GLIAC honorable-mention accolades.
Kienzl was one of three outfielders named to the second team. The sophomore
hit .340 with four home runs, 27 runs, and 28 RBI in 48 starts. She produced
a .471 slugging percentage and .374 on-base percentage. In the field, Kienzl
was close to perfection with only one error in 47 fielding chances.
The Pittsburgh, Pa., native ranked sixth among GLIAC players in hits (52),
seventh in RBI, and eighth in total bases (72). Kienzl hit .376 (32-85) with
runners on base, .333 (20-60) with runners in scoring position, and .345
(19-55) with two outs. She had 13 multiple-hit games, including six performances
with at least three hits. Kienzl also had seven multiple-RBI games while
producing a team-best eight-game hitting streak.
Hensley was named to the All-GLIAC second team as a utility player. The junior
has seen time as a catcher, first baseman, third baseman, and designated
hitter. She hit .324 with five home runs, 20 runs, and 35 RBI. Hensley led
the GLIAC in RBI while ranking fourth in walks (16) and ninth in total bases
(71). She had a .500 slugging percentage and .385 on-base percentage.
The Waterville, Ohio native hit .326 (28-86) with runners on base and .361
(22-61) with runners in scoring position. Hensley had 15 multiple-hit games
and a team-best 10 multiple-RBI games. She opened the season with a seven-game
hitting streak.
Koenig earned All-GLIAC honors for the first time after hitting .292 with
23 runs and 20 RBI. The junior centerfielder ranked second among GLIAC players
in stolen bases (17) and is sixth all-time at Gannon in career thefts (36).
She had a .409 slugging percentage and .349 on-base percentage.
The Erie, Pa., native hit .333 (19-57) with runners on base and .333 (13-39)
with runners in scoring position. She had 10 multiple-hit games and four
multiple-RBI games.
Ondrus also earned All-GLIAC honors for the first time, but her accolades
come mainly due to a new position in 2008. The junior pitcher began serving
as a designated hitter midway through the season and was named to the honorable-mention
team as a utility player. She didn’t see her first at-bat until April 2,
but currently ranks second among GLIAC players with a .404 batting average.
The Curtice, Ohio native had a .447 slugging percentage and .320 on-base
percentage in 47 at-bats. Ondrus hit .556 (15-27) with runners on base, .550
(11-20) with runners in scoring position, and .385 (5-13) with two outs.
She had five multiple-hit games and three multiple-RBI games. Ondrus is also
9-9 with a 3.72 ERA in 22 pitching appearances.
