GANNON SOFTBALL SPLITS FINAL GLIAC
REGULAR-SEASON ROAD TWINBILL

CORROTO BECOMES GANNON'S ALL-TIME HITS LEADER IN GAME TWO

HILLSDALE, Mich. - The Gannon softball team ended the road portion of its 2008 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) regular-season schedule with a doubleheader split Sunday afternoon at Hillsdale. The Chargers won game one 4-0, before the Lady Knights took game two by an 8-7 score.

Individually, Jaclyn Corroto (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) was the story of the day. The senior shortstop became Gannon’s all-time hit leader with a perfect 4-for-4 showing in the second game, moving into first place all-time with 234 career hits. She broke Sarah Kane’s (1998-01) previous record of 232. Corroto also scored twice, leaving her two runs shy of tying Larissa Smith’s (1994-97) school record of 156 career runs.

In the opener, Hillsdale scored two runs during each of the first two innings and posted a 4-0 shutout. Two Hillsdale pitchers limited Gannon to four singles by four different players.

Lauren Soldner (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) suffered her second loss in as many days, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits in 1 2/3 innings. She struck out three and walked two. Kelsey Brickman (Sylvania, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings in relief, allowing four hits while striking out three.

In the nightcap, Gannon returned the favor with five runs over the first two innings. Kara Hensley’s (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) three-run homer highlighted a four-run first inning.

Hillsdale battled back to tie the game at five in the top of the sixth inning, but Gannon responded with three more runs in the bottom of the frame on Corroto’s two-out, three-run homer.

Hillsdale did cut the deficit to 8-7 in the top of the seventh inning, before Kadie Ondrus (Curtice, Ohio/Clay) ended the game by forcing Britt Sevey to pop out to the third baseman with the bases loaded.

Corroto led the offense in game two with four hits, two runs, and four RBI in four at-bats. Five different Lady Knights also recorded a hit.

Brickman started the game, giving up four runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings of work. She struck out two and walked two. Ondrus earned the victory in relief, surrendering three runs (two earned) on three hits in 2 2/3 innings. She struck out one and walked three.

Gannon moved to 24-18 overall and 6-10 in the GLIAC with Sunday’s split. Hillsdale moved to 10-28 overall and 5-7 in conference play. The Lady Knights return to action Tuesday, April 22 at Clarion. The non-conference twinbill is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
