GANNON ENDS FIRST GLIAC WEEKEND
WITH LOSSES AT EIGHTH-RANKED GVSU

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Gannon softball team ended its first weekend of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play Sunday afternoon with a pair of losses at eighth-ranked Grand Valley State. The Lakers earned the sweep by scores of 1-0 and 9-0.

In the opener, one hit decided it all. Elizabeth Smith’s third homer of the season in the fourth inning was the only run scored during the 1-0 Grand Valley State victory. Gannon recorded six hits, but left eight runners on base.

Five Lady Knights recorded hits in the loss, led by Holli Michaels (Tacoma, Wash./Curtis) with two. Lauren Soldner (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) suffered the loss despite allowing only one run on four hits in six innings. She struck out five and walked one.

In the nightcap, Grand Valley State scored three runs in three consecutive innings and rolled to 9-0 victory. The game was called after five innings due to the eight-run rule. The Lakers posted three runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings.

Jaclyn Corroto (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) and Casee Piquet (Newton Falls, Ohio/Newton Falls) recorded Gannon’s only two hits.

Kadie Ondrus (Curtice, Ohio/Clay) was tagged with the loss, surrendering nine runs on nine hits in three innings. She walked two and struck out none. Kelsey Brickman (Sylvania, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) tossed two shutout innings of relief, striking out three and walking three.

Gannon fell to 16-12 overall and 0-4 in the GLIAC with Sunday’s losses. Grand Valley State improved to 19-6 overall and 4-0 in conference play. The Lady Knights return to action Wednesday, April 2 at Seton Hill. The non-conference twinbill is scheduled for 3 p.m.
