GANNON REMAINS RED HOT WITH
11TH CONSECUTIVE VICTORY
 
ORLANDO, Fla. - With the snow piling up in Erie, Pa., the Gannon softball team couldn't be any hotter in the state of Florida. The Lady Knights extended their win streak to 11 games Friday afternoon with two more vicories at the Rebel Games in Orlando, Florida. The squad moved to 10-0 at the Rebel Games with a pair of Great Lakes regional victories over West Virginia Wesleyan (3-2) and St. Joseph's (Ind.) (4-1).

In the opener, Gannon trailed 2-1 against West Virginia Wesleyan before rallying for a 3-2 victory with two runs in the sixth inning. Chastity Guerrero (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) drove in Kara Hensley (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) and Hannah Koenig (Erie, Pa./McDowell) with a single into the gap.

Kelsey Brickman (Sylvania, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) started on the mound, but received a no decision after allowing two runs on five hits in four innings. The sophomore struck out two and walked one. Lauren Soldner (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) picked up the victory in relief, tossing three shutout innings. The redshirt junior allowed two hits, struck out one, and walked one.

In the nightcap, Gannon used a pair of two-run innings to roll past St. Joseph's (Ind.) 4-1. The Lady Knights plated two runs in the second inning on Brooke Hayes' (Reading, Pa./Exeter Senior) two-run single. The squad added two more with a two-run double by Hensley in the third.

Hayes and Hensley both went 2-for-3 in the second game. Kadie Ondrus (Curtice, Ohio/Clay) pitched a complete game, surrendering one run on five hits. She struck out two and walked five.

Gannon improved to 11-3 with its 11th consecutive victory. West Virginia Wesleyan dropped to 15-12 while St. Joseph's (Ind.) fell to 4-6. The Lady Knights conclude play at the Rebel Games Saturday, March 8 against Shippensburg (9 a.m.) and Dowling (N.Y.) (1 p.m.)
