GANNON EXTENDS WIN STREAK TO FIVE
WITH ANOTHER SWEEP AT REBEL GAMES

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Gannon softball team extended its win streak to five games Monday afternoon with two more victories at the Rebel Games in Orlando, Florida. The Lady Knights posted the sweep with a 6-1 victory over Le Moyne (N.Y.) and 2-1 verdict over Kentucky Wesleyan.

In the opener, Gannon scored five runs in the first two innings and coasted to a 6-1 victory over Le Moyne. The Dolphins opened the game with a run in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Knights responded with two in the bottom of the frame on Carol Kienzl’s (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) two-run homer.

Gannon plated three more runs in the second inning, aided by Kienzl’s two-run double. The Lady Knights added an insurance run in the sixth inning to account for the final score.

Kienzl led the offensive explosion with a 4-for-4 showing at the plate with four RBI. Jaclyn Corroto (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) and Holli Michaels (Tacoma, Wash./Curtis) added two hits each.

Kelsey Brickman (Sylvania, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) earned the victory, allowing one unearned run on four hits. The sophomore struck out five and walked two.

In the nightcap, Gannon rode a strong pitching performance by Lauren Soldner (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Southview). The redshirt junior limited Kentucky Wesleyan to one run on seven hits during a 2-1 Gannon victory. She struck out three and walked one.

Gannon struck first in the top of the first inning. Corroto led off the game with a single and later scored on Kienzl’s RBI double. The Lady Knights increased their lead to 2-0 on Kienzl’s RBI ground-out with the bases loaded in the fifth. Kentucky Wesleyan cut the lead in half with a single run in the bottom of the seventh, but could not score the tying run.

Corroto led the offense in game two, recording three of the team’s six hits. Gannon improved to 5-3 with Monday’s sweep. Le Moyne dropped to 3-1 while Kentucky Wesleyan fell to 3-5. The Lady Knights continue play at the Rebel Games Wednesday, March 5 against Palm Beach Atlantic at 1 p.m. and St. Rose (N.Y.) at 5 p.m.

Complete box scores from the entire Spring Trip will be posted on the Gannon Web site following the Lady Knights’ return to Erie, Pa.
