GANNON ENDS REGULAR-SEASON NON-
GLIAC SLATE WITH SWEEP AT CLARION

CORROTO BECOMES GANNON'S ALL-TIME LEADER IN RUNS SCORED

CLARION, Pa. - The Gannon softball team ended the road portion of its 2008 regular-season schedule with a doubleheader sweep Tuesday afternoon at future conference foe Clarion. The Lady Knights posted the sweep by scores of 10-3 and 16-8.

Individually, Jaclyn Corroto (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) made Gannon history yet again. Two days after becoming Gannon's all-time hit leader, the senior shortstop broke Gannon's school record for runs scored. She touched home plate five times in the doubleheader, giving her 157 career runs. Corroto surpassed Larissa Smith's (1994-97) record of 156. Corroto also moved into a tie for third place all-time at Gannon with two stolen bases in game two, pushing her career total to 46. She ranks fifth in career RBI with 124.

In the opener, Gannon snapped a 2-2 tie with five runs in the top of the sixth inning en route to a 10-3 victory. Corroto's bases-loaded single snapped the tie before Hannah Koenig (Erie, Pa./McDowell) cleared the bases with a triple. Corroto later added a two-run double in the seventh as Gannon tacked on three more insurance runs in the final frame.

Kadie Ondrus (Curtice, Ohio/Clay) led the 17-hit attack with a 4-for-4 effort. Koenig, Casee Piquet (Newton Falls, Ohio/Newton Falls), and Carol Kienzl (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) each had three hits. Koenig drove in four runs while Corroto plated three.

Ondrus was a two-way star again. In addition to her stellar performance at the plate, the sophomore earned the victory on the mound. She allowed one earned run on 11 hits in seven innings, striking out eight and walking two.

In the nightcap, Gannon scored in five of the six innings before posting a 16-8 victory in a game that was called after six innings due to the eight-run rule. The Lady Knights used a seven-run third inning to put the game away. Six different Lady Knights recorded RBI during the outburst, capped by Chastity Guerrero's (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) two-run double.

Guerrero led the way in game two with three hits and three RBI in five at-bats. Ondrus and Holli Michaels (Tacoma, Wash./Curtis) added two hits each.

Kelsey Brickman (Sylvania, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) picked up the victory, allowing three earned runs on seven hits in three innings. She struck out three and walked one. Lauren Soldner (Sylvania, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) recorded her second save with three relief innings. The redshirt junior surrendered one unearned run on two hits in three innings, striking out two and walking none.

Gannon improved to 26-18 overall with Tuesday’s sweep. Clarion dropped to 3-26. The Lady Knights return to action Friday, April 25 against Saginaw Valley State at Gannon University Field. The GLIAC twinbill is scheduled for 3 p.m.
