GANNON SOFTBALL TEAM HOSTS LAKE
SUPERIOR STATE SATURDAY, APRIL 12
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon
softball team continues its homestand Saturday, April 12 against Lake Superior
State at Gannon University Field. The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (GLIAC) doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Sunday’s (April 13) Gannon-Slippery Rock non-conference doubleheader has
been cancelled because the Rock needs to make up a PSAC doubleheader that
was postponed earlier in the season. The homestand concludes Tuesday, April
15 against local rival Edinboro at 3 p.m.
Live gameday statistics will be available for Saturday’s games via the Internet.
Game one statistics will be available at http://www.gannon.edu/sports/women/softball/lstats/xlive.htm.
Game two statistics will be available at http://www.gannon.edu/sports/women/softball/lstats2/xlive.htm.
Gannon brings a 21-15 overall record and 3-7 GLIAC mark into Saturday’s doubleheader.
With only five conference twinbills remaining, the Lady Knights need to put
together a winning streak to qualify for the GLIAC Tournament. Gannon enters
the weekend in ninth place in the GLIAC standings, two games out of eighth
place in the loss column. Only the top eight teams will play in the tourney.
Three Lady Knights are hitting .300 or better, led by Holli Michaels’
(Tacoma, Wash./Curtis) .375 average. Carol Kienzl (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin)
and Kara Hensley (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) are hitting .364
and .333, respectively.
Lake Superior State is also on the outside looking in for post-season scenarios.
The Lakers are 6-20 overall and sit in 10th place with a 2-6 GLIAC record.
The Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., club has lost 10 of its last 12 games. Nichole
Dunford is LSSU’s top hitter with a .278 average.
