GANNON WOMEN’S SOCCER ENDS
MERCYHURST MATCH IN STALEMATE

ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon University women’s soccer team closed the 2007 regular season with a road match against rival Mercyhurst College Saturday afternoon. The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest ended with both teams unable to break a 1-1 tie after two overtime periods.
   
Gannon’s Courtney Rowan (Mentor, Ohio/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) posted the match’s first goal at 12:16, but Mercyhurst answered back at 28:45. Taylor Hilinski received a cross from Sarah Powell and found the back of the net.
   
The Lakers held an 18-8 advantage in shots and found nine corner kick opportunities to Gannon’s two.
   
Rowan led the Lady Knights offense with three shots. Powell headlined Mercyhurst’s offense with five shots.
   
Gannon goalkeeper Holly Johnson (Welland, Ontario/Notre Dame) played in the contest’s first 45 minutes and made zero saves. Fellow senior Tiffani Parks (Russellton, Pa./Deer Lakes) played the final 45 minutes of regulation and both 10-minute overtime periods. Parks stopped seven shots on target.
   
Mercyhurst’s Rebecca Heintzman spent the entire match in net for the Lakers, making one save in the contest.
   
Gannon concluded the regular season at 7-8-2 overall and 1-6-1 in the GLIAC. Mercyhurst ended its regular season at 5-2-1 in conference play and 13-3-2 overall.
