GANNON LACROSSE TEAM FALLS TO
SEVENTH IN NCAA DIVISION II POLL
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon
women’s lacrosse team dropped one spot to seventh in the latest Intercollegiate
Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II Top 10 poll released
Tuesday afternoon. The poll considered only matches played through Sunday,
March 23 and did not reflect last night’s 16-6 victory over Division I Niagara.
C.W. Post (4-0), the reigning national champion, remained No. 1 for the sixth
consecutive week. The Pioneers took seven of the 10 first-place votes and
earned 96 points. Limestone (S.C.) (7-1) is tabbed second with the remaining
three first-place votes and 90 points.
Stonehill (Mass.) (2-0), West Chester (3-1), and Adelphi (N.Y.) (4-0) complete
the top five.
Lock Haven (3-1), Gannon (4-1), Mercyhurst (5-2), Queens (N.C.) (6-3), and
Pfeiffer (N.C.) (5-4) round out the top 10.
Gannon split two matches last week, dropping a 12-9 decision at Division
I Canisius before rebounding with a 20-8 victory over ninth-ranked Queens.
The Lady Knights moved to 5-1 with a 16-6 victory over Niagara last night.
Taryn Millerd (Shortsville, N.Y./Midlakes) leads the Gannon offense
with 20 goals, eight assists, and 28 points. Colleen Dixon (Lafayette,
N.Y./Lafayette) and Mary Eshenour (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) both
have 24 goals and three assists. Kayla Nelson (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego)
leads the team in assists (15).
Shauna Hutchinson (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip) has started every
match in goal, posting a 8.31 goals against average and .583 save percentage.
Gannon concludes its current three-match homestand Thursday, March 27 against
Regis (Colo.) at Gannon University Field. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
