GANNON MOVES ONE SPOT TO SIXTH IN
LATEST NATIONAL LACROSSE POLL
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon
women’s lacrosse team moved up one spot for the second consecutive week and
is ranked sixth in the latest Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association
(IWLCA) Division II Top 10 poll released Wednesday afternoon.
C.W. Post (1-0), the reigning national champion, remained No. 1 for the third
consecutive week. The Pioneers took seven of the 10 first-place votes and
earned 91 points. 2007 NCAA Division II runner-up West Chester (0-0) is tabbed
second with two first-place votes and 78 points. Limestone (S.C.) (3-1) picked
up the final first-place vote and is listed third with 73 points.
Adelphi (N.Y.) (0-0) and Lock Haven (0-0) complete the top five. Gannon (2-0)
and Stonehill (Mass.) (0-0) were tied for sixth place with 43 points each.
Mercyhurst (3-0), Queens (N.C.) (3-1), and Belmont Abbey (2-1) round out
the top 10.
Gannon opened its 2008 season last week with a pair of victories against
Rollins (Fla.) (20-5) and St. Andrews Presbyterian (N.C.) (18-6).
Taryn Millerd (Shortsville, N.Y./Midlakes) led the Gannon offense
with seven goals, five assists, and 12 points. Mary Eshenour (Waterloo,
N.Y./Waterloo) also tallied seven goals, along with two assists. Colleen
Dixon (Lafayette, N.Y./Lafayette) was the team’s top goal scorer in the
first two matches with eight tallies.
Shauna Hutchinson (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip) has started both
matches in goals, posting a 4.67 goals against average and .740 save percentage.
Gannon returns to action this afternoon (March 5) against 10th-ranked Belmont
Abbey (N.C.) at Marion Diehl Park in Charlotte, North Carolina. Game time
is scheduled for 1 p.m.
