GANNON LACROSSE MOVES UP TO
EIGHTH IN LATEST NATIONAL RANKINGS
ERIE, Pa. - The
Gannon women’s lacrosse team moved up one spot and is ranked eighth in the
latest Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division
II Top 10 poll released Tuesday afternoon.
C.W. Post (14-0), the reigning national champion, remained No. 1 for the
10th consecutive week. The Pioneers took six of the 10 first-place votes
and earned 96 points. Limestone (S.C.) (15-1) is tabbed second with three
first-place votes and 86 points. Adelphi (N.Y.) (12-0) is listed third with
79 points. West Chester (13-1) picked up the final first-place vote and sits
in fourth place with 77 points. Stonehill (Mass.) (10-2) rounds out the top
five with 54 points.
Lock Haven (11-3), Mercyhurst (11-2), Gannon (9-3), and New Haven (13-2)
are ranked sixth through ninth. Southern New Hampshire (9-5) and Belmont
Abbey (12-7) are tied for 10th place.
Gannon was perfect in three matches last week, improving to 9-3. The Lady
Knights posted victories against Indiana (Pa.) (23-2), Seton Hill (22-7),
and Notre Dame (Ohio) (23-15).
Kayla Nelson (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) leads the Gannon offense with 10
goals and a team-best 49 assists. Colleen Dixon (Lafayette, N.Y./Lafayette)
and Taryn Millerd (Shortsville, N.Y./Midlakes) are close behind with
56 and 55 points, respectively. Dixon has scored a team-high 47 goals while
Millerd has netted 41.
Shauna Hutchinson (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip) has started 10
of Gannon’s 12 matches in goal, posting a 9.92 goals against average and
.505 save percentage.
Gannon returns to action Saturday, April 26 against second-ranked Limestone
(S.C.) on a neutral field at Dowling (N.Y.) College. Game time is scheduled
for 2 p.m.
