NINTH-RANKED GANNON SURVIVES
SCARE FROM NOTRE DAME (OHIO)

ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon women’s lacrosse team was put to the test and survived a scare against Notre Dame (Ohio) Friday night at Gannon University Field. The ninth-ranked Lady Knights broke a 7-7 tie with seven unanswered goals in the final 6:12 of the first half and posted a 23-15 victory.

The first 23 minutes turned out to be as hotly contested as a match could be. The two teams battled to a 7-7 tie with physical action on both ends of the field.

However, the final 6:12 of the first half proved to be the difference. Five different Lady Knights scored during the decisive 7-0 run, led by two goals from both Antonia Cianfrocco (Chittenango, N.Y./Chittenango) and Taryn Millerd (Shortsville, N.Y./Midlakes). Millerd’s tally with one second left on the clock sent Gannon to halftime with a 14-7 lead.

Notre Dame regrouped at the intermission and cut the deficit to 17-12 with 8:46 to play after three consecutive goals. Colleen Dixon (Lafayette, N.Y./Lafayette) then stemmed the tide with her fifth goal of the night as the Lady Knights scored six of the final nine goals.

Dixon and Millerd led the Gannon offensive unit with six goals each. Cianfrocco, Christina Blasi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-LaSalle), and Mary Eshenour (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) added hat tricks. Kayla Nelson (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) ran the offense with five assists and one goal.

Gannon improved to 9-3 with its second consecutive victory. Notre Dame saw its nine-match win streak snapped, dropping to 9-4. The Lady Knights return to action Saturday, April 26 against second-ranked Limestone (S.C.) on a neutral field at Dowling (N.Y.) College. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
