GANNON WOMEN'S GOLF TEAM OPENS
SEASON WITH 19TH-PLACE FINISH
   
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Gannon women’s golf team opened its spring season with a 19th-place finish Sunday afternoon at the Northern Kentucky Invitational.
   
Grand Valley State led from start to finish, posting a two-day total of 621. The Lakers shot rounds of 313 and 308. Indianapolis (315-209-624), Ferris State (320-307-627), California (321-309-630), and Northern Kentucky (323-308-631) rounded out the top five. Gannon finished 19th out of 21 teams with a 707, posting rounds of 352 and 355.
   
Indianapolis’ Kristi Piepenbrink captured the individual title by five strokes with a 146 after scores of 72 and 74. Jess Slonaker (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) was Gannon’s top golfer, finishing tied for 51st place with a 169. The junior recorded rounds of 84 and 85.
   
Christa Cox (T71st, 83-91-174), Amanda Eckhart (T74th, 91-84-175), Allyssa Ferriell (T127th, 112-95-207) completed Gannon’s team. Whitney Burkett shot a 94 during the first round, but withdrew from the second round.
   
Brooke Pyle (97th, 87-95-182), Tarin Fedrizzi (T102nd, 97-88-185), and Emily Quinn (T127th, 106-101-207) also competed as individuals.
