GANNON FINISHES FIFTH AT
MERCYHURST WOMEN'S GOLF INVITE

ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon women’s golf team finished fifth out of 10 teams Sunday afternoon at the Mercyhurst Invitational hosted by Lake View Country Club.

Ashland led from start to finish, posting a two-day score of 642. The Eagles recorded rounds of 320 and 322. Findlay (333-326-659), Kutztown (345-331-676), the University of Toronto (344-342-686), and Gannon (330-361-691) completed the top five.

Gannon was in second place after recording a 330 during Saturday’s first round, but fell to fifth place with a 361 on Sunday. The difference of 31 strokes was partly due to the fact that Jess Slonaker (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy), Gannon’s leading golfer, was disqualified during Sunday’s final round.

Ashland’s Annie Miles also led the individual field from start to finish, winning the title with a two-day total of 150 (74-76).

Christa Cox (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) and Whitney Burkett (Los Alamos, N.M./Los Alamos) were Gannon’s top finishers. Both tied for 17th place with identical scores of 174 and identical rounds of 82 and 92.

Allyssa Ferriell (25th, 86-91-177), Amanda Eckhart (29th, 90-89-179), and Tarin Fedrizzi (T31st, 92-89-181) completed Gannon’s six-member team.

Emily Quinn (40th, 93-96-189), Brooke Pyle (55th, 99-107-206), and Abbey Welker (64th, 126-122-248) competed as individuals.

Gannon returns to action September 28-29 at the Northwood Invitational
