GANNON FINISHES SIXTH AT GLIAC
WOMEN'S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS
SLONAKER RECORDS HOLE-IN-ONE; EARNS ALL-GLIAC ACCOLADES
FINDLAY, Ohio -
The Gannon women’s golf team finished sixth out of seven teams Monday afternoon
at the 2008 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships
hosted by the University of Findlay at the Sycamore Springs Golf Course.
Individually, Jess Slonaker (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) completed a
stellar 2007-08 campaign with a fine showing at the GLIAC Championships.
Slonaker recorded a hole-in-one on the par-three, 143-yard eighth hole during
Monday’s final round. The junior was later named to the All-GLIAC honorable-mention
squad. She averaged 79.6 strokes during 14 rounds in 2007-08, recording three
top-10 finishes in seven events.
Grand Valley State won the team title, leading from start to finish with
a 907. The Lakers posted rounds of 297, 307, and 303. Ferris State (307-313-307-927),
Ashland (315-320-322-957), Findlay (331-326-324-981), and Northwood (332-337-350-1019)
completed the top five.
Gannon finished sixth with a three-round total of 1,035. The Lady Knights
opened the championships with rounds of 348 and 353, before firing a weekend-best
334 on Monday.
Slonaker was Gannon’s top golfer, tying for 10th with a three-round score
of 238. She recorded rounds of 78, 80, and 80. Amanda Eckhart (T25th, 91-81-84-256),
Allyssa Ferriell (35th, 91-94-87-272), and Emily Quinn (T40th, 88-98-98-284)
completed Gannon’s four-member team. Whitney Burkett had a two-round total
of 177 (94-83), but didn’t post a final score because she withdrew from the
second round.
Gannon’s 2007-08 women’s golf season is now complete.
