VOTES IN FIRST NATIONAL TOP 25

ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon women’s basketball team was listed among others receiving votes in the first USA Today ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll released Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Knights were ranked 20th in the preseason poll.
   
The University of North Dakota, which begins its final Division II season before moving to Division I in 2008-09, is the No. 1 team in the country with a 4-0 record. The Fighting Sioux was also the top pick in the preseason poll.
   
Delta State (4-0), Washburn (5-0), the University of California-San Diego (5-0), and Alaska Anchorage (4-0) completed the top five. Drury (2-0), Emporia State (3-1), California State-Chico (4-0), and Indiana (Pa.) (5-0) rounded out the top 10.
   
No Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) team is listed in the top 25. Gannon is the highest ranked GLIAC team, receiving 33 points. Ferris State (19), Grand Valley State (7), and Michigan Tech (3) also received votes.
   
Gannon enters its GLIAC opener Thursday, November 29 against Northern Michigan with a 2-1 record. The Lady Knights opened the season with a 71-68 loss to West Liberty State, but rebounded with consecutive victories over Wheeling Jesuit (68-42) and Tiffin (56-47). Thursday’s game marks Gannon’s first home contest of the season. Game time at the Hammermill Center is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
