GANNON'S VARGAS NAMED GLIAC

ERIE, Pa. - Gannon’s Kim Vargas (Sterling, Va./Broad Run) has been named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season. The award was based on games played during the holiday break from December 17 through January 1.

Vargas averaged 15.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists during three games over the holiday break. The sophomore forward has scored at least 12 points in eight consecutive games. She leads Gannon in scoring (15.6) and ranks second in rebounding (6.5).

The Sterling, Va., native began the holiday break with 26 points and 10 rebounds during two games against Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) foe Bellarmine (Ky.) and nationally-ranked Stonehill (Mass.) at the Cruzin Classic in Miami Shores, Florida. Vargas then reached the 20-point plateau for the third time with 20 points during a 72-66 victory at West Virginia Wesleyan last Sunday. She added six rebounds and three assists while hitting 10-of-14 shots against the Bobcats.

Gannon (7-4, 2-1) returns to action Thursday, January 3 against Slippery Rock at the Hammermill Center. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. The contest can be heard live on 90.5 WERG and via the Internet at http://www.gannon.edu/sports/werg/knightsound.ihtml
