GANNON'S VARGAS NAMED GLIAC
BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
   
ERIE, Pa. - Gannon’s Kim Vargas (Sterling, Va./Broad Run) has been named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after leading the Lady Knights to a 3-0 record last week.

Vargas averaged 22.7 points and eight rebounds last week. The redshirt sophomore shot 57.8 percent (26-45) from the field, 53.8 percent (7-13) from three-point range, and 81.8 percent (9-11) from the free throw line.

The Sterling, Va., native opened the week with 18 points and eight rebounds during a 113-80 rout of Daemen. She then poured in a career-high 25 points while leading Gannon to its first-ever win at Lake Superior State, including 17 second-half points. Vargas was 8-of-12 from the field in the second half against LSSU.

Vargas matched her career-high for the second consecutive game with 25 points against Edinboro. She leads Gannon in scoring (15.8) and rebounding (6.9) this season.

Gannon (6-2) is in the midst of a 10-day layoff for final exams. The Lady Knights return to action Tuesday, December 18 against Bellarmine (Ky.) at the Cruzin Classic in Miami Shores, Fla. Game time is scheduled for 11 a.m
