HILLSDALE PUTS ON SHOOTING CLINIC
IN 83-47 VICTORY OVER GANNON

GANNON'S CHANCE OF REPEATING AS DIVISION CHAMPS DASHED

ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon women’s basketball team will not repeat as Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) South Division regular-season champions. Hillsdale put an end to those hopes with an 83-47 victory Thursday night at the Hammermill Center. As a result, Hillsdale moved four games ahead of Gannon with four to play and owns the tie-breaker based on its season sweep of the Lady Knights.

Hillsdale led from start to finish Thursday night in Gannon’s worst home loss since an 88-47 loss to Northern Michigan on January 3, 1998. The Chargers opened a 13-3 lead 5:23 into the game and a 21-8 advantage 9:07 into the affair.

Gannon cut the deficit to 24-20 on Brittany Tabron’s (Canton, Ohio/Canton Central Catholic) free throw with 4:13 left in the first half, but Hillsdale ended the period with an 11-3 run and went to the intermission with a 35-23 edge.

The visitors opened the second half with a 16-6 run and never looked back. The Chargers opened their lead to a game-high 37 points on three occasions, before posting an 83-47 victory.

Tiffany Crocker (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) was the only Lady Knight in double digits with 13 points. Gannon shot 33.3 percent (17-51) from the field, 27.8 percent (5-18) from three-point range, and 72.7 percent (8-11) from the free throw line.

Katie Cezat led Hillsdale with 31 points and 11 rebounds. The junior forward recorded 55 points and 36 rebounds in two games against Gannon this season. Janay Miller and Claire Aubrey added 15 and 10 points, respectively.

Hillsdale shot 62.7 percent (32-51) from the floor, including a 70.8-percent (17-24) clip in the second half. The Chargers shot 43.8 percent (7-16) from behind the arc and 80 percent (12-15) from the free throw line.

Gannon dropped to 13-9 overall and 7-6 in the GLIAC. The Lady Knights remained one-half game behind Ashland for second place in the South Division and the quarterfinal home game that comes with it. Hillsdale, ranked second in the Great Lakes region, improved to 18-3 overall and 11-2 in conference play. The Lady Knights conclude a four-game homestand Saturday, February 9 against Wayne State. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Gannon basketball teams are asking fans to “Fill the ‘Mill” with pink Saturday to promote breast cancer awareness while raising funds for survivors and treatment. Admission to both games is free and all fans are asked to wear pink.
