GANNON WATCHES SEASON COME TO AN
END WITH A 70-45 LOSS TO ASHLAND
                   
ERIE, Pa. - The third time wasn’t the charm for the Gannon women’s basketball team. Despite losing both regular-season games to Gannon, Ashland was close to perfection Saturday evening en route to a 70-45 victory in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) quarterfinal contest at the Hammermill Center.
   
Ashland moves on to play Ferris State in the GLIAC semifinals Friday, March 7 at Michigan Tech. Gannon’s season came to an end with a 16-12 record.
   
The two teams split the contest’s first 12 points, but it was all Ashland after that. The Eagles snapped a 6-6 tie with a seven consecutive points. It was part of a 22-6 run over a span of seven minutes and eight seconds. Lynsey Warren’s jumper with 9:09 remaining in the half gave the Eagles a 28-12 lead. Ashland increased its lead to 18 before heading to the break with a 34-19 edge.
   
The visitors pushed their lead over 20 points 6:10 into the second half and never looked back. A 12-0 run late in the game gave the Eagles their biggest lead of the evening at 68-37 with 3:48 to play.
   
Julie Kleber (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) led Gannon with a career-high 13 points off the bench. Ashley Lowdermilk (Kensington, Ohio/Carrollton) scored 12 points in her final collegiate game. Brittany Tabron (Canton, Ohio/Canton Central Catholic) added eight points and 12 rebounds.
   
Gannon shot 30.4 percent (17-56) from the field, marking its second-lowest single-game percentage of the season. The Lady Knights shot 23.3 percent (7-30) from three-point range and 66.7 percent (4-6) from the free throw line.
   
Four Eagles reached double digits in scoring, led by Lisa Graue’s 13 points. Lindsey Gaut netted 12 points while Elizabeth O’Brien and Lacy Romine chipped in 10 points each.
   
Ashland shot 47.5 percent (28-59) from the floor, 33.3 percent (5-15) from behind the arc, and 90 percent (9-10) from the charity stripe.
