GOLDEN KNIGHTS DEFEAT WEST
LIBERTY STATE IN WRESTLING ACTION
 
WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. - The 13th-ranked Gannon University wrestling team earned its fifth dual win this year with a 25-15 win against host West Liberty State Saturday evening.
   
Gannon junior Corey Bowers (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) won a 4-3 decision over Matt Mosser in the 133-pound bout.
   
Zack McKendree (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area) earned another win by decision for the Golden Knights with a 6-2 win over Kayne Melko at 149.
   
Brandon Monin (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) defeated Hilltoppers 157-pounder Brian Leggett by an 8-5 decision.
   
West Liberty State’s Brandon Niefield used up all of his injury time at 5 minutes, 15 seconds, giving Gannon sophomore Tony Petrella (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) a win by medical forfeit at 165.
   
In the 184-pound bout, Pino Scavella (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) recorded his 17th fall this season by pinning West Liberty State’s J.D. Ramsey 6:54 into the match. Scavella leads all Division II wrestlers in pins as of January 30, 2008.
   
Gannon heavyweight Frank McGrath (Hammonton, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) won his weight class with a 9-0 major decision over Joey McGee.
   
The 5-2 Golden Knights host Shippensburg on Saturday, February 9 at 8 p.m. The home dual will be held at the Hammermill Center, on the campus of Gannon University.
