ERIE, Pa. –     The Gannon University wrestling team ended the regular season with a 36-6 victory over the Seton Hill Griffins Wednesday evening at the Hammermill Center.

Gannon, ranked 12th nationally and third in the East Region, fell behind 6-0 after losing the 125- and 133-pound weight classes by decision.

Kevin McElhaney (Jamestown, Pa./Jamestown) earned his 14th pin this year with a 2:35 fall over Seton Hill’s Buck Watkins at 141.

Gannon’s Mike Sanders (Albion, N.Y./Albion) earned a 17-6 major decision at 149 over Josh Voelker.

Redshirt-junior Brandon Monin (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) produced the Golden Knights’ first technical fall of the night by blanking Bill Landefeld 15-0 at 157.

Two takedowns and a three-point near fall in the first period gave Chris Daniels (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) all the points he needed to defeat Seton Hill’s Quade Miller by 7-3 decision at 165.

A late escape in the third period broke a 5-5 tie, giving Gannon’s Mike Cavalier (Newbury, Ohio/Newbury) a 6-5 win by decision over Lewis Spadaro in the 174-pound bout.

Pino Scavella (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) earned an easy six points courtesy of Seton Hill’s forfeiture of 184.

Gannon redshirt-junior Jacob Tazzi (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay) won the 197-pound bout by 18-2 technical fall over Stephen Zubach.

Heavyweight Frank McGrath (Hammonton, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) gave the Golden Knights their final four points of the evening by defeating Matt Galadyk in a 14-4 major decision.

Gannon concludes the regular season with an 8-3 overall dual record. The Golden Knights went undefeated at home with four wins and zero losses.

Seton Hill drops to 3-10. The 2007-08 season marks the Griffins’ wrestling program’s first year of competition.
